A Tribe Called Quest is gearing up to unleash its final album.
With a handwritten note published on social media, Q-Tip made the announcement on Thursday (Oct. 27). Though he didn’t reveal its title, the project will be Tribe’s first since 1998’s The Love Movement and also its last.
Tip explained that the album process began after Tribe’s “Tonight Show” performance last year on Nov. 13. Coincidentally, this was the same night as the terror attacks in Paris.
“As we left 30 Rock I felt the need, we all did, to get back to the studio and start that cookup!!” Q-Tip writes in his letter. “So we got to it!!”
Although the group started the project together, tragedy struck when Phife Dawg passed in March of this year, bringing the album to a halt.
“He left us with the blueprint of what we had to do,” Tip adds. “So we collected ourselves as tribesmen.”
Past ATCQ collaborators Busta Rhymes and Consequence also came on board to complete “what will be, obviously the final A Tribe Called Quest Album.”
Q also assured fans that “this isn’t filled with old Phife bars.” He added: “This is that pure, unstepped on pure!!”
A Tribe Called Quest’s final album is due Nov. 11.
