Young Thug is finally ready to introduce the world to Jeffery.
The Atlanta rapper’s highly-anticipated album will now arrive on Friday, Aug. 26. He made the big announcement in a dramatic trailer, which finds him frustrated inside of an interrogation room. While detectives ask if he’s Young Thug, the rapper is forced to correct them. “No,” he says. “My name is Jeffery.”
Images of watches, hand signs, and cigarettes flash throughout the clip as the 300 MC is questioned further. “My name,” he insists, “is Jeffery.”
During a recent interview with Travis Scott on .wav radio, he explained the evolution of Jeffery.
“This is personal,” he said. “At the end of this album, everybody’s gonna be like, ‘Your name Jeffery.’ There’s no Thuggish songs. There’s cool songs. I got a song on there called ‘Future Swag’ but it’s still Jeffery.”
It’s so personal, in fact, that Thug is contemplating a name change in order to be known as Jeffery or No, My Name Is Jeffery.
“I just want to get off of the Slime Season shit because I never had a street mentality,” he added. “I always had a Michael Jackson mentality…The message is to go back to who I really am. I really am Jeffery. That’s really my swag.”
Jeffery was originally set to drop Aug. 16.
