Azealia Banks Quits Social Media 'For Good'

  /  08.03.2016

Azealia Banks claims she is done with social media once and for all.

On Monday (Aug. 1), the Slay-Z rapper took to Facebook to announce that she is “quitting Facebook and any other forms of social media.”

“I’m seriously tired of peoples feelings,” she wrote. “I’m tired of seeing their overly sensitive reactions and responses to everything. I’m tired of having everything I say or do be monitored and I’m tired of being told how I should be behaving. I’m quitting Facebook, and any other form of social media that allows me to engage with people. My legacy can’t live and die on the Internet. Goodbye. For good.”

Banks has had a love-hate relationship with social media. In March, for example, she deleted her Twitter account and made a similar declaration in a series of tweets.

“Okay,” she wrote at the time. “Today I’m finally making the decision to eject from social media. American media culture is honestly so fucking disgusting and junky and complaining about it is not going to change it. Reading shit, seeing stupid ass articles and dumb bitches/bros has just really filled me up with a lot of bad feelings. It’s been a great couple of years, sharing opinions and having conversations, but I think I will be much happier just NOT looking at this.”

Soon, Banks returned to the platform, only to have her account suspended for making racist and homophobic slurs. Those same comments had her dropped from the annual Born & Bred Festival in May.

Despite quitting all forms of social media on Monday, Banks has been increasingly active on Instagram in recent days.

Her most recent update on IG came earlier today. The post features the actor Pete Davidson in an “Uncommon Sense” promo that reads: “I don’t use social media, because I’m not mature enough to have it.”
