Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar to Headline Global Citizen Festival

  /  07.26.2016

Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar are joining forces for the fifth Global Citizen Festival.

The musical powerhouses will join Selena Gomez, Major Lazer, and Metallica as headliners for the free concert, which is slated to take place at the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park on Sept. 24.

Other artists on this year’s bill range from Usher and Ellie Goulding to Eddie Vedder and Chris Martin. The event, which will be streamed live, will be hosted by Chelsea Handler, Hugh Jackman, Priyanka Chopra, and Salma Hayek, among others.

Global Citizen, a festival expected to draw 60,000 attendees this year, encourages activism and is meant to fight poverty and gender inequality around the world. Instead of purchasing tickets, fans who want to attend will have to complete tasks on the Global Citizen website. That includes making phone calls to elected officials and/or attending rallies.

Beyoncé, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, and Pearl Jam performed at last year’s Global Citizen event.
