August Alsina visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana—where Alton Sterling was shot and killed by police officers last week—in order to reflect on race relations and ask for change.
The New Orleans crooner met with Sterling’s aunt and the store owner who witnessed the deadly shooting. “2 People of God with Amazing strength,” he wrote. “But just because we’re strong doesn’t mean we don’t hurt.”

About four days ago, Alsina took to Instagram to capture thoughts he was having about the race issue in America.
“With everything going on in the world today, my soul is weak,” he revealed. “My heart is weak. To see the people that we put in place to protect and serve us neglect and murder us is very disheartening.”

August continued, saying that he is confused by the issues surrounding race relations in this country. “When do we stand up for ourselves and show them what our life means to us?” he asked. “Do we do what they’re doing to us? Do we kill them? I don’t know. You tell me. I’m just sending love to every other person around the world that’s confused as to why our lives don’t matter.”
