Missy Elliott to Be Honored at VH1's 'Hip Hop Honors'

  /  06.14.2016

All hail Missy Elliott.

VH1 has announced that the rap icon will join Queen Latifah as the second confirmed honoree at this year’s “Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens” event, which is slated to air live from New York on July 11 at 9 p.m. ET.

Missy’s success in hip-hop has garnered her critical praise and commercial acclaim. All six of the Grammy-winning rapper’s studio albums have gone platinum or better and she’s the only female MC to have that distinction. Overall, she’s sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Additional honorees for this year will be announced later this week.

“Hip Hop Honors” has been on a hiatus for six years, but it’s back now to celebrate “female pioneers, trailblazers, and trend-setters.” In the past, the show has honored acts like Public Enemy, Tupac Shakur, and the Notorious B.I.G.

Missy Elliott is definitely no stranger to the show. She was also recognized at the 4th annual “Hip Hop Honors.” A video of the tribute performance featuring Ciara, Timbaland, Eve, Keyshia Cole, and Nelly Furtado can be seen below.
