Usher Performs Prince Tribute at Coachella
Prince takes over Coachella. Many musicians including Ice Cube paid homage to the late great on the first weekend since the Purple One’s death. Usher also came through with a couple of special covers.
The ATLien took the stage with Major Lazer during Sunday’s set to perform “I Would Die 4 U” and “1999,” two of Prince’s biggest hits—hits that continue charting.

Usher wasn’t alone as LCD Soundsystem also covered “Controversy” during their headlining performance and Jack Ü delivered a Prince-heavy set on Friday. Elsewhere, Sufjan Stevens and Gallant covered “Purple Rain,” and Jhené Aiko also joined Gallant for a duet of “Diamonds and Pearls.”

The tributes kept pouring in. According to the Los Angeles Times, Ellie Goulding took on Prince’s “When Doves Cry,” Ice Cube wore purple shoes and a purple bandana, and Killer Mike delivered these potent words: “Prince, wherever you are, we are burning this to the ground in your name.”
