“Panda” claws and climbs its way to No. 1. Desiigner has dethroned Rihanna and Drake’s “Work” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 after nine weeks.
The G.O.O.D. Music signee celebrated his first No. 1 during an interview with Billboard on Facebook.
“It feels good,” he said. “It’s a blessing…I just need to get back in there. Thank you to everybody who supported me.”
G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha T also celebrated the victory. “Congrats @LifeOfDesiigner on having #1record in the country. 18yrs old and the talk of the country! #GOOD @kanyewest,” he tweeted. “Young creatives making a way… U gotta love it. #PANDA #1.”
It’s a major win for the 18-year-old MC, who becomes the youngest male act to nap the top spot since Chris Brown did it with “Kiss Kiss” in 2007. He’s the youngest overall since Lorde’s 2013 run with “Royals.”
With this win, Desiigner also becomes the first U.S. born act in the No. 1 slot after a 41-week reign from stars born outside of this country, including Drake, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, and Adele.
As a young spitter, this is also a great feat. The last rapper to rank this high with a debut chart entry was Iggy Azalea. “Fancy” helped her earn that distinction in 2013.
“Panda” also earned this notoriety without a music video. An official clip is coming, according to Def Jam and Desiigner himself.

Elsewhere on the chart, Drake jumps to No. 3 with his single “One Dance” off his upcoming album Views, which drops Friday.
Meanwhile, Rihanna and Drake’s “Work” falls to No. 4, Fifth Harmony’s “Work from Home” sits at No. 6, and G-Eazy’s “Me, Myself & I” rounds out the top 10.
