Listen to an Unearthed 1995 Fugees Freestyle

  /  03.17.2016

The Fugees might not be reuniting anytime soon, but the Grammy-winning trio is freestyling together in the latest throwback video released by Tim Westwood.

In the clip, which was recorded in 1995, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras go back-and-forth in a mini cypher for the British radio show host. While Westwood claims it’s the first time this recording was released, some of the lyrics they performed here can be heard elsewhere.

For instance, L. Boogie’s intro melody comes from the group’s “Blame It on the Sun” B-side. Then, Lauryn kicks bars straight off her Method Man collab “Lost in the Masquerade.” Later, she spits a portion of “The Beast” off The Score, which was released the following year. On his end, Wyclef pulls lines off his DJ Muggs collab “John 3:16” while Pras spits rhymes from The Score’s “Manifest” joint.

Relive the Fugees and their mid-’90s glory with the freestyle below, which also features a strong nod to their “How Many Mics” single.
