Kanye West has scrapped three album titles now. We’ve seen Yeezy’s seventh LP go from So Help Me God to Swish to Waves, and now it’s untitled.
‘Ye broke the news during an interview with Big Boy on L.A. radio station Real 92.3. “We don’t have a name yet,” he said.
Whatever the album is called, West is set to debut it at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Feb. 11 where he will also be revealing Yeezy Season 3. Those who can’t be in NYC that day will be able to check it out in theaters worldwide.
The album title change wasn’t the only thing Yeezy spoke about in the interview. Listen to the Q&A and check out more highlights from the candid conversation below.
On Kendrick Lamar: “With Kendrick, that’s God MC, so can’t no record go out without him approving exactly the mix and how it sounds and his voice and everything like that.”
On this being a gospel album: “This is a gospel album with a whole lot of cursing on it, but it’s still a gospel album. It’s the gospel, according to ‘Ye. It’s not exactly what happened in the Bible, but it’s a story of this idea of Mary Magdalene becoming Mary.”
On Kim Kardashian’s late father, Robert Kardashian: “He’s still doing deals for controversial black people from up in heaven.”
On Wiz Khalifa: “My brother Malik Yusef got us on the phone. He’s very close with Wiz. He’s also very close with me. We chopped it up, squashed it. For people who felt a way about the kid comment, I didn’t mean it in a harmful way. I just saw my wife’s initials and reacted because that’s my family.”
On Drake saying he has a bigger pool on “Summer Sixteen”: “I have three pools.”
On having Tupac on his new album: “Wow. You know what? I hadn’t thought about that, but I wonder if there is a ‘Pac verse or something that we could find. I’m not sure.”
