That Rihanna reign just won’t let up. Only 14 hours after the surprise release of ANTI, 1 million people worldwide have downloaded the singer’s eighth album.
To cap off her ANTIdiaRy campaign with Samsung, Rihanna distributed download codes to fans, who were able to download ANTI for free. More than 1 million copies were downloaded on TIDAL in a 14-hour period. All download codes have now been redeemed.
“Rihanna, Samsung, and TIDAL would like thank the more than 1 million fans who have downloaded ANTI and made it an overnight success, exceeding expectations,” read a press release.
The gift download period has expired, but the album is still available for streaming exclusively on TIDAL. According to TIDAL, ANTI has been streamed nearly 14 million times.
The oft-delayed project leaked on the streaming service just hours before making its official debut. Billboard reports that the leak forced TIDAL to advance the release to Wednesday night, up two days from a projected Friday debut.
Rihanna took to Twitter to thank her fans for their support. “1 MILLION in under 15 hrs!!!! NAVY R die!!!! Thank u to all my fans and @samsungmobileus,” she said.
If that wasn’t enough, the Drake-assisted single “Work” shot to No. 1 in 91 countries on its first day of release and was the most heard song on more than 1,200 radio stations.
Additionally, ANTI became a trending topic upon its release. According to Twitter stats, there were over 705,000 tweets about Rihanna on Wednesday alone.
UPDATE: The RIAA has officially certified ANTI platinum after logging 1 million downloads. “THANK U NAVY!!! #ANTI IS PLATINUM!!” Rihanna told her fans.
The deluxe version of the album, which includes three new tracks, is now available for purchase on iTunes.
