Chris Brown's 'Royalty' Debuts at No. 3

Royalty rules the charts this week. Chris Brown’s eighth album enters at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

The project, named after Brown’s daughter, moves 184,000 units (162,000 in pure album sales) in its first week, and also debuts at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (via Billboard). It marks Brown’s eighth consecutive top 10 album and his biggest first-week sales since 2011’s F.A.M.E. (270,000 sold).

Earlier this year, he released his collaborative album with Tyga, Fan of a Fan: The Album, which debuted at No. 7 (51,000). Prior to that, his 2014 album X debuted at No. 2 with 145,000 copies sold.

Meanwhile, Adele’s 25 spent its fifth week atop the Billboard 200, with 1.19 million equivalent album units (1.16 million in pure album sales). The album, which debuted with 3.38 million last month, has sold 7.13 million copies in the U.S. since its release.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Justin Bieber’s Purpose holds at No. 2 with 229,000 units (153,000 in sales), The Weeknd’s Grammy-nominated Beauty Behind the Madness slides 5-9 with 72,000 units, and Adele’s 21 rounds out the top 10 (71,000).

Other debuts this week include Pusha T’s Darkest Before Dawn, which comes in at No. 20 (45,000), Ariana Grande’s digital EP Christmas & Chill (No. 34 with 32,000), and Monica’s Code Red at No. 27 (36,000).
