J. Cole Debuts Episode 1 of Documentary Series

  /  12.16.2015

With his HBO special “Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming” premiering on Jan. 9, J. Cole is building anticipation with a string of four episodes in the preceding weeks.

The rapper posted an open letter detailing what he’s referring to as a five-part mini-documentary. “These pieces all document some important moments from the last year of my life and give you a lot of insight into the album rollout process, each act of the ‘Forest Hills Drive’ tour, the ‘Dollar and a Dream’ tour (Friday Night Lights Edition), and some ill perspective on the inner-workings of my career and the important people that help make all this shit happen,” he wrote.

Cole plans to roll out the episodes starting with the first installment, titled “F**k Money, Spread Love.” Subsequent episodes are titled “Ain’t Nothin’ Like That” (Dec. 23), “This Is What You Wanted” (Dec. 30), and “Buses, Vans, and Trains” (Jan. 6). Each episode will be available on HBO Now and for free streaming on Vimeo, and will be viewable up until Jan. 9., after which he will release the documentary on DVD.

The special is the latest achievement for Cole, who was recently nominated for three Grammys and dropped Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers II compilation on Dec. 7.
