Chris Brown scored a victory in court today. The R&B superstar won joint custody of his daughter Royalty.
According to TMZ, Brown and baby mama Nia Guzman squared off in a Houston courtroom on Friday morning. She wanted to deny Chris any custodial rights and only wanted to give him supervised visitation of their one-year-old baby.
But the judge disagreed, and awarded Brown with 50/50 physical custody. Royalty will go back and fourth every four days. Both Chris and Nia now live in L.A. He gets to take Royalty home today.
Since the news broke that he had a child with Guzman, Brown has stepped up to the plate and embraced his new role as dad. He even named his upcoming album after Royalty.
“I think this was just a blessing in disguise with my daughter because I get a chance to look at her and teach her the right path and also be a father in my daughter’s life,” he told Ryan Seacrest. “Just to see a smile on her face—just to see the littlest things—is emotional for me, so I just love that aspect of being able to be a father now.”
