New Music: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - 'Downtown'

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are taking it “Downtown” on their brand new single. After debuting the Ed Sheeran-assisted “Growing Up,” dedicated to his newborn daughter Sloane, Macklemore switches lanes and crafts another crossover hip-pop record that will find its home at Hot 97 and Top 40 radio alike.

Over a funky old school beat (think “Thrift Shop”), he raps about buying a moped while Birdman and Timbaland are copping Bugattis, while hip-hop legends Kool Moe Dee, Eric Nally, Melle Mel, and Grandmaster Caz contribute vocals.

“I like a big girl / I like ’em sassy / Goin’ down the backstreet listening to BLACKstreet,” raps Macklemore.

The duo will perform the song at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
