Kendrick Lamar Interviews N.W.A

  /  08.13.2015

In anticipation of the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton, in theaters Friday, Kendrick Lamar sat down with the four surviving members for the cover of Billboard. Kendrick arrived 30 minutes early to the shoot at a studio in Hollywood to meet up with Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren.

“Ain’t nobody we’d rather have do this interview,” said Cube.

K-Dot came prepared, asking his idols about N.W.A’s “dangerous” legacy, the obstacles they faced throughout their careers, their relationship with the late Eazy-E, and the new generation of hip-hop (MC Ren and Dre both gave props to Kendrick and Pusha T).

“You’re No. 1 on my list because of the care and attention you bring to your tracks and the precision you bring to your sound,” Dre told Kendrick. “There are a few people out there I listen to and respect.”
