Queens rapper Chinx was killed early Sunday morning in a drive-by shooting.
The 31-year-old, born Lionel Pickens, was with a friend in a silver Porsche when gunfire erupted around 4 a.m. in Queens. A car pulled up alongside them and opened fire before speeding off. Bullets pierced the glass and struck Chinx multiple times in the torso.
He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he died. His friend, Antar Aldiadi, 27, suffered two bullet wounds to the back and is currently in critical condition.
Chinx was a member of French Montana’s Coke Boys and rose to fame through his Cocaine Riot series of mixtapes. He was working on his solo debut.
His collaborator Meek Mill mourned his loss. “Can’t let these suckas shatter ya dreams! RIP CHINX!” tweeted the Philly MC. “The hood gotta stop glorifying suckas that kill good people!”
Other members of the hip-hop community including Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, and The Weeknd took to social media to pay their respects.
