Black Messiah

The Black Messiah is coming. D’Angelo will debut his first album in 14 years as soon as next week.

The project, which will be released under D’Angelo and the Vanguard, marks the singer’s long-awaited third album, the follow-up to 2000’s critically-acclaimed Voodoo.

While no official announcement has been made, there have been several hints. Ads are running on websites including Rap-Up that say “Black Messiah Is Coming,” which link to a 15-second teaser video on YouTube.

An invite was also sent out for a listening session to be held on Sunday in New York hosted by author Nelson George. The album will reportedly be released to the public following the event.

Physical copies have landed in stores and posters have been spotted in Brooklyn (via Pitchfork).

Earlier this year, D’Angelo’s manager Kevin Liles said that a new album was “definitely” coming in 2014. D’Angelo has also announced dates for a European tour called “The Second Coming Tour” for early 2015.
