DeJ Loaf has been building buzz with her underground hit “Try Me,” and now she’s parlayed her success into a record deal.
According to HITS Daily Double (via HHNM), the 23-year-old Detroit rapper has signed to Columbia Records, home to Beyoncé, John Legend, and T.I.
Her single “Try Me” has been quoted by Drake on Instagram and spawned several unofficial remixes from Wiz Khalifa, Lil Mama, Lil Durk, and Tink. But DeJ is not exactly flattered.
Her fellow Detroit native Big Sean hinted that he may appear on the official remix to “Try Me,” which is No. 1 on Shazam in New York and Philadelphia.
Dej started writing around the age of nine and put out her first mixtape, Just Do It, in 2012. She spoke about her future in an interview with Noisey.
“I’m gonna be one of the best to ever do it,” said the confident MC. “I just want to be different man, I don’t think the music industry has anybody like me. It’s just like if rap was to start today, or music in general I would be me just so I can set myself apart from others.”
