Modesty has never been Azealia Banks’ strong suit. The Harlem rapper has come under fire again after declaring herself the “best female in hip-hop.”
The unapologetic Banks, notorious for her feuds with her peers including Iggy Azalea, T.I., Rita Ora, and Angel Haze, took to Twitter to proclaim her greatness.
“I’m the best female in hip-hop. Sorry, not sorry. I’m better than most of you niggas too. Real Talk,” tweeted the “212” hitmaker.
She followed it with an explanation. “I’m the only new female rapper with her own voice. All the other girls are doing the post-nicki minaj thing,” she said.
Banks, whose debut Broke With Expensive Taste has been repeatedly delayed, also recently pleaded for her label to release her. “I’m literally begging to be dropped from Universal,” she tweeted. “Universal needs to just hand me over to another label who knows what to do with me.”
She added, “I’m tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. they don’t even know what they’re listening for or to … Can someone at Sony buy me off of Universal please?? i’m really in hell here.”
After her single “ATM Jam” failed to take off, she blamed her collaborator Pharrell for his lack of support. “The reason ATM jam did poorly is because pharell changed his mind about wanting to be associated with me after he had his lite skin comeback,” Banks told fans.
In the meantime, she has collaborated with Busta Rhymes on a remix to Beyoncé’s “Partition” and will perform at London’s Wireless Festival in July.
