Jay-Z lied when he said he was done tweeting for the year. On the eve of the worldwide release of Magna Carta Holy Grail, @S_C_ returned to Twitter to hold a lengthy Q&A session with fans.
Instead of talking to the press, the Roc Nation mogul reached out directly to his 2.67 million followers with his 140 characters or less tweets. From his favorite Britney Spears song to his thoughts on Miley Cyrus, here are 20 things we learned from Jay’s “facts only” tweet-a-thon.
1. His favorite song on the album is currently “Oceans.” The song was recorded two years ago.
2. He doesn’t believe Christopher Columbus discovered America. “Only Christopher we acknowledge is Wallace,” he raps on “Oceans.”
3. He doesn’t eat cereal often, but when he does Cap’n Crunch Berries is his favorite.
4. He thinks Magna Carta Holy Grail is his fourth best album to date following Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. “Hard to beat RD,BP1,TBA. it can fight for 4th #factsonly,” he said.
5. The Notorious B.I.G. would “absolutely” be on the album if he were alive. “Are you going for tears????” he responded to one fan. “wow.oh, sorry, absolutely. BK style.”
6. He has begun working on “6 pieces of art” to accompany Magna Carta.
7. He is a fan of Miley Cyrus. “Miley is a GOD,” said Jay. “She represents an old worlds worst nightmare … Black neighbor,and the daughter not seeing color.”
8. “Open Letter” will only appear on the vinyl edition of MCHG “handled by Jack White.”
9. His favorite Britney Spears song is “Toxic.” “Jamming my G,” he said.
10. Outside of hip-hop, he is currently listening to James Blake and Gonjasufi.
11. Blue Ivy is a New York Giants fans. “I broke the cycle,” tweeted Jay, who is a Dallas Cowboys fan.
12. He thinks the Rick Rubin-produced “99 Problems” is one of the greatest songs ever made. “99 Problems maybe top 1 song ever.. Any genre..my opinion not a #factsonly.”
13. His favorite Michael Jackson song is “Human Nature” and Prince song is “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker.”
14. He had the most fun recording “BBC” featuring Nas, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz, and Timbaland.
15. He plans to release footage from his studio session with Nas. “We had a great time in the studio. I’ll release the footage.”
16. Despite his iconic status, he still feels like he has competition. “YES, but, that works for me,” he said.
17. When asked why Kanye West wasn’t on MCHG, he responded, “same question back to you on Yeezus? WTT2?” Does that mean a Watch the Throne sequel is in the works?
18. If he could go back in time, he would like to spend a day with Picasso.
19. Best business advice he’s received: “Don’t listen to anyone, everybody is scared.”
20. Jay-Z bought back the rights to Roc-A-Fella. “you know I had to get that back! #factsonly.”
