Young Jeezy is hustling his way into the boardroom. The Atlanta rapper has been named Senior Vice President of A&R at Atlantic Records.
He announced the news in a tweet. “From the streets to the Boardroom. SVP of A&R at Atlantic Records I am. Let’s Get it!” wrote Jeezy. “Corporate thuggin to the max!”
In his new role, the 34-year-old MC will sign and develop new talent and work with the label’s current roster. He has his own label Corporate Thugz Entertainment (CTE), which includes Freddie Gibbs, Slick Pulla, and his group USDA.
Jeezy is currently signed to Def Jam, where he has released four solo albums. His latest, Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition, debuted at No. 3 in December 2011.
He’s not the first artist to take on an executive role. His mentor Jay-Z held the position of President at Def Jam for three years, while his “Leave You Alone” collaborator Ne-Yo currently holds the title of SVP of A&R at Motown Records.
