Azealia Banks Readies Debut for September

Azealia Banks had the Internet abuzz with her raunchy single “212,” but she’s just getting started. The Harlem rapper-singer is prepping her debut album for a September release.

“It’s called Broke with Expensive Taste and it’s coming out in September,” the 20-year-old newcomer told Nylon. “The theme is a young girl trying to find it.”

She elaborated on the concept. “That girl who’s at the end of her childhood trying to get a job and make some money,” she explained. “She needs to get what she can get! She needs to go out there and show people she knows how to work for it.”

Banks, who is signed to Universal Music, has quickly been embraced by the fashion community, performing at Karl Lagerfeld’s Net-a-Porter collection launch, shooting a video with Thierry Mugler designer Nicola Formicetti, and making the front row rounds at London Fashion Week.
