Frank Ocean Makes a Splash at Tour Kickoff in New Orleans
Frank Ocean returned home to New Orleans for his first of five live intimate shows. “This is my hometown,” the Odd Future singer-songwriter told the audience at the House of Blues on Saturday night.
The 23-year-old recluse, who moved to Los Angeles after Hurricane Katrina, performed cuts off his mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra and showcased new material from his upcoming Def Jam debut.
Dressed in a black suit with a red-and-white bandana around his head, he had the crowd singing along to some of the songs he penned including Beyoncé’s “Miss You” and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” and “Made in America,” while standing in front of a digital screen. A cover of Sade’s “By Your Side” was also on the set list.
His fellow Odd Future members watched from the balcony as a solo Frank shined onstage. “Frank First Show Last Night Was So Fucking Awesome Nigga. I Almost Cried Cause A Nigga Was So Excited,” tweeted a proud Tyler, the Creator.
