With his double platinum single “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” still burning up the airwaves, Rich Homie Quan is readying his debut album Rich As in Spirit. While backstage at Real 92.3’s “Real Show” at L.A.’s Forum, the Atlanta rapper revealed some of the big names on board including Lil Wayne, Ashanti, Jadakiss, and Boosie Badazz.
He recorded the majority of the album in Jamaica with executive producer Ryan Leslie. “He’s a legend, someone I grew up listening to,” he said.
He also hit the studio with Lil Wayne in Miami to record a “banger.” “I just like Wayne’s vibe. He’s my biggest idol of all. He even let me sit in the booth while he recorded.”
Another one of his collaborators, Ashanti, holds a special place in his heart. “Growing up, I had a crush on Ashanti, so I had to get the cold out of my eye and make it happen.”
RHQ recently got a tattoo of notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar on his arm, but he’s not bothered by the controversy. “I really think we were related. Pablo inspired me, he’s one of my biggest idols,” he shared. “Everybody know he did a lot of bad, but to me, his good outweighed his bad. He took care of his community, he loved his family, and he was all about loyalty and respect, and I feel as if that’s what I stand for.”
He dismissed his critics, adding, “I gotta die with it, homie, not you.”
