Nicki Minaj Expresses Outrage Over George Floyd's Death

  /  06.01.2020

Nicki Minaj is breaking her silence.

As protests continue following the death of George Floyd, the rap queen returned to social media on Monday to address his murder. Speaking to her 115 million Instagram followers, Minaj posted a photo of a sign with the names of unarmed black men and women who have been killed at the hands of police.

She also expressed her outrage over the Minneapolis police officers who were involved in the incident. All four have been fired, but only one, Derek Chauvin, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

“When 4 black THUGS commit a crime, if 1 person commits murder, they ALL get charged & CONVICTED,” she wrote. “When white THUGS/COPS KILL innocent black people, ALL 4 of them are responsible‼️‼️‼️ They all watched an unarmed man die and did nothing‼️ Why do they have different rules?????”

She urged her followers to speak out and demand action. “Let your voice be heard. Be angry. White people have been using violence against us since the beginning of time. We didn’t invent violence & looting,” added Nicki, who was doubtful that justice would be served. “Will these officers actually get convicted? Probably not.”

She also suggested ways for her fans to get involved with the protest by signing petitions and texting FLOYD to 55156. “Let your voice be heard. Call & TEXT to be a part of these petitions. May Mr. Floyd Rest In Peace,” she added.

Minaj is the latest rapper to use her platform to speak out. JAY-Z has called upon Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to demand justice for Floyd, while Beyoncé and Rihanna have shared messages in the wake of the tragedy. Artists including J. Cole, Ariana Grande, and Jhené Aiko have also joined protests across the country.
