Eminem Performs Medley on 'SNL'

Live from New York, it’s Eminem. Slim Shady continued the rollout for Revival with a performance of his new single “Walk On Water” on “Saturday Night Live.”

Following an introduction from host Chance the Rapper, the Detroit MC—clad in all black and a gold rope chain—performed in front of “SNL’s” subway-like stage. With some help from Skylar Grey, the duo kicked off their nearly nine-minute long set with the Beyoncé-assisted song.

Dressed in all white, Grey took over Queen Bey’s singing portions, which she wrote. Beside her, Em performed the introspective breakdown of his creative process and career. A live band accompanied them, with a string section for added orchestral effect.

Playing on the track’s ending, in which Em proclaims, “Bitch, I wrote ‘Stan,'” the duo continued the medley with the Dido-assisted single. Once again, Grey handled the chorus while Em ran through the fanatic anthem.

Finally, Em closed out the medley with “Love the Way You Lie.” In place of Rihanna, Grey belted out the chorus, which she also penned. Meanwhile, Em raged through the emotionally chaotic relationship rumination as his mentor Dr. Dre looked on backstage.

This was the second televised performance of “Walk On Water.” Last weekend, Em and Grey performed the song for the first time at the 2017 MTV EMA in London.

While some fans were delighted with the performance, others were disappointed that Eminem performed only one new song. Many expected that he would debut new material off his upcoming album, which still does not have a release date. It is, however, expected to include collaborations with Dre and Rick Rubin, who is executive producing the project.
