In what’s become a breakout year for the burgeoning rappers, Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti are teasing a joint mixtape with a punk rock attitude.
Over the weekend, Young Carti shared a photo of Captain Sensible and Dave Vanian of the ’70s punk outfit The Damned, featuring a telling caption: “Carti Uzi Tape * Uzi Carti Tape * 16.29.”
As Billboard reports, the caption references the 1600 block in Philadelphia, where Uzi was raised, and the 2900 block in Atlanta, where Carti came up.
Vert and Carti are no strangers to collaborations. The two previously worked together on “wokeuplikethis*,” “RAF,” and “Of Course We Ghetto Flowers.”
It’s unclear if and when the project will arrive, but it isn’t the only rumored Uzi project. Over the weekend, he also teased Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World 2 on Instagram and last week, Marilyn Manson said he was crafting an album with the Philly spitter.
“He wants to do a rock album next, and I would love to see that happen because I think that he could make a new thing,” said Manson. “Not some rock/rap type of thing, something special and new that I think needs to be created just to fuck the world up more.”
At the time, Manson also called him a “lil’ crazy motherfucker” that reminded him of himself with an early Bad Brains or Faith No More vibe, “but with a catchier element.”
For now, Uzi is enjoying great success on the charts. His debut album Luv Is Rage 2 opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and he currently has seven songs on the Hot 100.
