Just one day after revealing his battle with liver disease, August Alsina unleashes “Don’t Matter,” the lead single off his upcoming third studio album, Drugs.
Over acoustic guitar strumming, the R&B crooner takes it straight to the sheets. “I be knocking down the walls every time you make that call,” he sings. “You be changing all your plans, but you’re callin’ me your man / You got something I can feel baby, girl it’s been so long / I been having withdrawals.”
In January, August dropped three new tracks, “Drugs,” “Wait,” and “Lonely,” which are expected to appear on his next LP. However, Alsina says this one stands out. “My 1st actual single in a longggggg time guys,” he tweeted. “I’m excited to share this love!”
“Don’t Matter” lends itself to the Drugs concept, which August also revealed in January. “I realized how addicted to certain ways of living life I was, addicted to chaos, drama, confusion,” he explained. “Lately, for me, it’s been about breaking the cycle and creating a new normal. That new normal is love. I have a newfound addiction. Through love and beautiful women, I’ve been able to find myself, reach higher places within myself.”
