Drake Gives Kendrick Lamar Props for 'DAMN.' Success

  /  04.30.2017

Drizzy gives K-Dot props.

After reading sales figures for Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. — which is slated to top the Billboard 200 for a second week in a row — Drake commented, “Amazing to see our music moving!!!”

The comment comes as a result of More Life being projected to reach No. 2 on the chart with 77,959 units, trailing behind K-Dot’s 233,301 units.

But that’s not where Drizzy’s Kung Fu Kenny commentary ended. When producer Austin Millz wrote: “Khaled really got Bieber, Chance, Migos and Lil Wayne on one track. How do you follow that up?” The 6 God responded: “Get Drake, Kendrick, and J Cole on the same record.”

This is a far cry from Drake’s 2013 perspective on Kendrick. Following Dot’s “Control” verse, which named him and other rappers, Drizzy seemed perturbed. “I don’t know if I necessarily respect it,” he said of the song at the time. “We all make decisions. I’m sure he’ll be good. He’s talented as fuck. He’s going to have another album and another opportunity to take the world by storm so he’ll be alright, even if it doesn’t feature any of the names that he mentioned, which it probably won’t. I don’t know who’s gonna go back from that like, ‘Let’s link up.’ Nah.”

Since then, the two MCs have not worked together and they’ve reportedly sent subliminal disses at one another throughout the years. Prior to this apparent fallout, they collaborated on “Fuckin’ Problems” and “Poetic Justice.”
