Watch a New Trailer for the Tupac Shakur Biopic 'All Eyez On Me'

  /  02.10.2017

The long-awaited Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me won’t arrive until the summer, but fans are getting another sneak peek in a new trailer.

The minute-long clip features a brief look at the West Coast legend’s friendship with the Notorious B.I.G. and an emotional speech by “The Walking Dead’s” Danai Gurira, who plays ‘Pac’s late mom Afeni Shakur.

“Son,” she says. “This ain’t just about you. Like all black men, you have a bullseye on your back. They are gonna come after you and everything you love. They are gonna give you the tools that you need to destroy yourself. So above all else, to thy own self, be true.”

Premiered by HipHopDX, the trailer also features Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as Tupac, Jamal Woolard as Notorious B.I.G. — a role he famously held in 2009’s Notorious — and Dominic L. Santana as Suge Knight. Biggie and ‘Pac can be seen conversing in one of the scenes, a callback to their pre-feud bond.

Last year, Shipp spoke with Complex about the role and Shakur’s significance. “The greatness that I adore the most is him as a man, as a person, and as a leader, as a black leader,” he said. “That’s what I idolized in ‘Pac more than the music. As a kid, it was just the music, but growing up, becoming a man, and diving deep into his life and seeing exactly what he had to go through, what he overcame, the choices he made and the wisdom he carried at 25. Man, that’s something that was amazing.”

Kat Graham (“The Vampire Diaries,” The Parent Trap) will star as Shakur’s longtime friend Jada Pinkett, John West Jr. (“Southland”) will play Naughty by Nature’s Treach, and Grace Gibson (Black Nativity) will play Faith Evans.

Released by Lionsgate and directed by Benny Boom, All Eyez On Me is due in theaters June 16 on what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.
