A$AP Mob, Kendrick Lamar, & The Weeknd Celebrate Yams Day

Two years after A$AP Yams’ passing, his peers came out to celebrate his life and legacy at the second annual Yams Day.

Held at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday (Jan. 18), the concert featured performances by Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, ScHoolboy Q, Tyler, the Creator, French Montana, Ab-Soul, Cam’ron, Lil Uzi Vert, Danny Brown, T-Pain, and of course, the A$AP Mob.

TDE was definitely in the building for the occasion. King Kendrick hit the stage for “m.A.A.d. city,” ScHoolboy Q rocked out to “THat Part,” and Ab-Soul performed “Terrorist Threats.”

The Mob performed material off their Yams tribute album Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends- including “Telephone Calls,” featuring a hype verse from Tyler, the Creator.

The Weeknd emerged to perform “Low Life.” Sans Future, Abel rocked through his hit single in front of a crowd that included celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Tesfaye’s ex, Bella Hadid.

After performing “Low Life,” he also offered a message about Yams for the audience. “One time make some noise for A$AP Yams,” he said. “R.I.P. That’s the brother right there. He’s for the culture. A$AP is the culture. XO is the culture. Make some motherf**king noise.”

Yams’ mother Tatianna “Tati” Paulino also reflected on her son, born Steven Rodriguez, with a message about substance abuse.

“Steven was a genius,” she said in Spanish. “Thank you, to all the artists for being here this evening. I can’t tell you what to do, but I can ask you to be responsible. That can save your life the way it could’ve saved Steven’s. #nocombo #nomixing. Always strive and prosper!”

Yams died from acute mixed-drug intoxication, including opiates and benzodiazepine, on Jan. 18, 2015. He was 26.
