Nas meets Hamilton.
Tapping Dave East and Aloe Blacc to round out the cast, Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda unleashes “Wrote My Way Out,” the latest cut from the star-studded Hamilton Mixtape.
“I picked up the pen like Hamilton,” rhymes Esco. “Street analyst, now I write words to try to channel ’em / No political power / Just lyrical power.”
For his part, Miranda raps about his upbringing as a book worm. “I caught my first beating from the other kids when I was caught reading,” he raps.
Interestingly enough, Miranda recently revealed that one of his school bullies was rapper Immortal Technique. “He was our school bully,” Miranda told the “WTF” podcast. “He terrorized kids, he threw them in the garbage. I got thrown in the garbage by him.
“He’s one of the most political, ideological [rappers]. He really made an incredible life for himself as a rapper,” he added. “He was a really angry kid and it’s been wonderful to watch him grow up and find a political outlet for that anger.”
Due Dec. 2, The Hamilton Mixtape is set to feature Wiz Khalifa, Common, Chance the Rapper, Busta Rhymes, The Roots, Queen Latifah, and Ja Rule, among many others.
