Murder Inc. reunites…at least for a photo.
While most know Murder Inc. as Ja Rule’s former record label, the name also once belonged to a short-lived supergroup formed by Ja, Jay Z, and DMX in 1999. The trio has since gone through ups and downs, but all seemed well on Friday (Oct. 7) when they reunited at Beyoncé’s final “Formation World Tour” at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
Backstage, Rule, Hov, and X bonded. They laughed and appeared to share stories and rhymes while hanging out in a greenroom. It was a throwback to their days as Murder Inc. and other great times, like when they joined forces on the “Hard Knock Life Tour” in 1999. It brought back memories of their only collaborations, “Murdergram” and “It’s Murda.”

In fact, X is reciting lyrics to Jay’s verse off “It’s Murda” in a behind-the-scenes video that emerged from last night’s reunion. Despite that, however, the group never collaborated as a trio again.

In 2014, Rule York opened up about the tension that stopped the group from actually releasing an album.
“We couldn’t get X and Jay in the same room, from long ago, their storied [1994] battle on the pool table, guns out [and] all of that,” he told MTV News. “We tried to deliver that [group] album. It was a situation where egos all just played a part in its demise.”
But egos seemed to be placed to the side on Friday when Ja, Jay, and X posed for photos together ahead of Queen Bey’s “Formation” finale. Lenny Santiago, Senior Vice President of Roc Nation, summed up the moment on Instagram.
“The Final day of the Formation World Tour was nothing short of Epic,” he wrote. “The Jay, X and Ja reunion.. Wow.”
