Kendrick Lamar and Mac Miller Pay Tribute to Phife Dawg

  /  03.23.2016

Rest in peace, Phife Dawg. The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor, who died at 45. While some have shared their condolences and respect on social media, others are already celebrating the Tribe Called Quest rapper live and in their music.

Kendrick Lamar, for example, paid homage to the Five Foot Assassin during a performance at Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia last night.

“We lost one of the pioneers in hip-hop today by the name of Phife Dawg, ya’ll,” he said, while fans chanted the late great’s name with phones and lighters in the air. “We’re gonna give it up to him for allowing me to do what I’m doing on this stage right here, right now, today.”

Mac Miller is another MC who has shared a tribute, only he did it as a producer, under his Larry Fisherman alias.

Earlier today, Miller released a tribute to the ATCQ rapper with “5 Foot Assassin: Larry Fisherman Tribute,” a mellow, melodic, and ambient instrumental paired with some classic bars from the Funky Diabetic.
