Mike Posner Performs 'I Took a Pill in Ibiza' on 'Tonight Show'
Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” was released last year, but the song only recently become a top 10 fixture on the Billboard Hot 100. To celebrate its staying power and to promote his upcoming sophomore album At Night, Alone, the Detroit crooner hit “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Friday (Mar. 18).
Sporting blonde hair, a black hoodie, and his guitar, Posner was joined by The Roots for a rendition of his smash single, an honest and candid cut, inspired by his career “roller coaster.”
Prior to the show airing, Posner called The Roots collaboration a “bucket list” item and a “dream come true.” “When I was 11 years old the first concert that I ever went to was the Okayplayer Tour headlined by The Roots,” he explained. “My amazing big sister took me. Tonight I got to play a song I wrote with the Roots…that, ladies and gentlemen, is literally a dream come true.”
The single is also a special one for Mike. Upon releasing it, Posner told The Huffington Post that he penned it, hoping to refocus his musical energy on art.
“It’s not the job of the art to accommodate me and make me more money, make me more famous and get me more girls,” he said. “I think I was in that mindset after Cooler Than Me came out. I started getting some of those things, and I thought, ‘How about if I get more?’ I think for a period of time I did think art was there to serve me, but it took me a minute to reset.”
At Night, Alone is set to drop May 6. Watch Posner and The Roots deliver “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” below.
