Tinashe took the charts by storm last summer with her DJ Mustard-produced hit “2 On.” Since then, she has released her debut album Aquarius, performed a dance tribute to Janet Jackson, and toured with Nicki Minaj. Now a year later, she’s readying her sophomore album.
In an interview with Billboard, she reveals that she has 30 tracks recorded for the as-yet-untitled project, tentatively scheduled for a November release. This time, she’s worked with the likes of Dr. Luke and Max Martin—she’s aiming for the top of the charts.
The new tracks include the Martin-produced “Player,” ratchet “Joyride” (produced by Hit-Boy and Travi$ Scott), and the Boi-1da-helmed “Party Favors,” while other contributors include Nic Nac and Dev Hynes.
“I don’t see myself as an urban niche act,” said Tinashe. “I want to have mainstream success that doesn’t feel forced or label-made.”
And she’s not slowing down anytime soon. “I grew up in the era of steady content, every day, all day. Days off drive me crazy—I just sit around and I think about all the shit I could be doing.”
Before the album’s release, she will join Katy Perry as a supporting act on the South American leg of her “Prismatic World Tour,” beginning Sept. 29.
