Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift: Bad Blood Over VMAs

  /  07.21.2015

Is there bad blood between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift? The rap superstar and pop singer lit up Twitter after their exchange over the MTV VMAs.

Nicki was lamenting over her Video of the Year snub for “Anaconda,” and noted that skinny women were being favored. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” she wrote.

Not long after, Taylor Swift, whose “Bad Blood” video is nominated for Video of the Year, responded. “@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot,” she said.

Swift’s video for “Bad Blood” notably features “women with very slim bodies” including Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Lily Aldridge.

After reading the tweet, a confused Nicki responded, saying that her tweets weren’t aimed at her. “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.”

Taylor then invited Nicki to share the stage with her.

Nicki continued, calling out Ryan Seacrest for his one-sided headline, and also noted Taylor’s decision to remove her music from Spotify and how she was applauded for it. Nicki is a co-owner of Spotify’s competitor, TIDAL, which has received backlash.
