With his sophomore album x due later this month, Ed Sheeran unleashes the follow-up to his Pharrell-produced single “Sing.” The British crooner opens up about a high-profile breakup on “Don’t,” which he debuted on “SNL” in April.
The acoustic jam was purportedly written about pop star Ellie Goulding, who is rumored to have cheated on him during their romance last year.
The relationship went from good (“Now she’s staying at my place and loves the way I treat her”) to bad quickly (“I never intended to be next / But you didn’t need to take him to bed”).
He issues her a stern warning: “Don’t fuck with my love / That heart is so cold.”
x drops June 23 featuring production from Rick Rubin, Jeff Bhasker, and Benny Blanco. A new song will debut each day next week on iTunes.
