50 Cent is leaving the past behind. After severing ties with Interscope/Shady/Aftermath and going independent, the rap mogul has released the cinematic video for “The Funeral,” the first release under his new deal.
“It’s a concept for a story I wrote that’s written like film where it’s not all talk and one piece,” explained 50. “There’s a lot of flashbacks. It starts at the end and goes back like the movies.”
His first indie album Animal Ambition drops June 3. On March 18, fans will be able to pre-order the album and receive two instant tracks, while the videos will premiere online.
As part of his new agreement, he will pay Caroline/Capitol/UMG only 7% of wholesale per album in exchange for distribution and support.
“It’s freedom to invest in your own ideas,” he told Forbes. “If ever I had a horse that I was betting on at the track, I’d like to be the horse. Let it be me, goddammit, because I’m going to run as hard as I can.”
