Kelis is starting out the new year with a new label and a new album. The “Bossy” singer will serve up her sixth LP Food next spring.
The follow-up to 2010’s Flesh Tone will arrive on April 22 via U.K. indie label Ninja Tune. It was produced entirely by Dave Sitek, the founder of rock band TV on the Radio and producer for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
According to a press release, Food is “a soul record that’s as raw and alternative as it is classic.” The 34-year-old explores pain, happiness, and everything in between, while showcasing her “most frank and vulnerable vocals to date.”
“I’m really happy to be partnering with Ninja Tune on my new record,” said Kelis. “This is the album I’ve wanted to make for a long time and I want the team around me to be as excited and energetic about it as I am. I’m also very happy to be working with some of the most creative people in the industry.”
Earlier this year, she offered a taste of her new music with “Jerk Ribs” and recently shot a video for the song “Rumble.”
“I’m really excited, my album is done,” Kelis previously tweeted. “It sounds like love and summer balled up into one!”
