Two days after shooting the video, French Montana takes us behind the scenes of his new single “Freaks.” The Bad Boy rapper hit the L.A. set with Nicki Minaj and a club full of freaky ladies in the Eif Rivera-directed clip.
French reveals that the song was originally for Wale. “Wale like my brother. He had it first, so one day he played it for me. I said, ‘Yo, can I have it?'” said French. “Him just being my brother and really just wanting to see me do good, he gave it to me. Thank you, Wale.”
The song’s producer Rico Love spoke about sampling Chaka Demus & Pliers’ “Murder She Wrote” and Li’l Vicious and Doug E. Fresh’s “Freaks” on the dancehall-flavored tune. “We put two together and made a fusion, made a marriage.”
But you’ll have to wait to see Nicki in the full video (she does not appear in this particular clip). French’s debut album Excuse My French is due May 21.
