President Obama, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z

Beyoncé and Jay-Z showed their support for President Obama by raising $4 million for his re-election campaign at an exclusive fundraising event last night in New York City.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, attendees shelled out $40,000 a pop to mingle with the President and the superstar couple at Jay-Z’s “40/40” club. The glitzy event featured a tower of 350 Armand de Brignac champagne bottles.

“I can’t tell you how proud we are to host tonight’s event with President Obama,” said Beyoncé, who wore a red cocktail dress. “We believe in his vision.”

A grateful Obama thanked the Carters for their support. “To Jay and Bey, thank you so much for your friendship,” he said, while joking, “Michelle, Sasha and Malia are mad at me because they aren’t here.”

He praised the “Singles Ladies” singer for being a role model for his daughters. “Beyoncé couldn’t be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise and has so much talent,” said Obama.

The commander-in-chief also saluted the Roc Nation boss. “We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are. So, you know, we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard but it’s OK,” he said.

Beyoncé performed for the First Couple during their first dance at the inaugural ball and has worked closely with First Lady Michelle Obama on the “Let’s Move” initiative to fight childhood obesity.
