A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of rapper Dolla on Monday in Los Angeles.
Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday night. His bail was set at $1 million.
Police said Berry is believed to have dropped off a rented silver Mercedes SUV before he was found at the airport with a handgun.
“As the officers approached the suspect, they asked him, ‘Do you know why we’re here?'” Sgt. Jim Holcomb told the AP. “He put his [hands] up in the air and said, ‘Yes, I’ve got a gun in my waistband. Don’t shoot me.'”
Two other “persons of interest,” one male and one female, who were with Berry at the airport were being questioned, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Neither has been charged in connection with the shooting. They were detained before attempting to board a plane out of LAX.
Dolla reportedly had an argument with someone on the flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles earlier on Monday. The 21-year-old rapper, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was killed later that afternoon in the valet waiting area at the Beverly Center. It’s unclear if the two incidents are connected.
“I wanted to do the same thing to the young man that did this to my nephew,” Eddie Pryor, Dolla’s saddened and angry uncle told myFOX Los Angeles. “He had no gang affiliations, no gang ties. He was a rapper, just a young man trying to make it.”
Dolla’s funeral will be held in Atlanta, where his mother resides.
